Pssst... want to hear a secret?
Here are our insider tips to help you become an escape room pro!
Escape rooms are a challenge - no secret there. Tricky puzzles and cleverly hidden clues offer a real challenge. That’s why we’ve put together 10 tips to help you successfully escape a room - and maybe even set a new record time!
1. Everything You Need Is in the Room!
The number one rule of any escape room: everything you need to solve the puzzles is already in the room - including the knowledge. All items (some hidden) can be found on site. You don’t need any prior knowledge to solve our rooms. All necessary information is hidden in the form of clues within the space.
2. Inspect Everything!
Take a close look around and search thoroughly.
What types of locks are there? Are you looking for keys, 3- or 4-digit codes, or letters? Are there clues next to the locks? What objects and decorations are around? Look under and behind things. Anything that isn’t fixed in place can be moved. Don’t be afraid to make a bit of a mess - our game masters will handle the cleanup!
3. Keyword: Organized Chaos!
Don’t lose track in the middle of the mess. Sometimes you’ll find items that you won’t need until later. Set those aside in a safe spot so you don’t lose them in the heat of the moment.
Important: Each code and key is only used once! So move already-used items out of the way to stay focused on what’s still important.
4. Talking Is like thinking - as a team!
Communication is key to a successful escape room. Four eyes see more than two!
Share what you’ve found with your teammates and talk through ideas. Make sure everyone knows what puzzles have already been solved and what items are still unused.
Different perspectives often help crack a puzzle. Solving one can feel like assembling a jigsaw everyone holds a piece of the solution, but only together does the full picture emerge.
5. Double-Check Everything!
Stuck? Go back and search the room again - you may have missed something.
If you’re sure you’ve solved a puzzle correctly but the lock won’t open, check your logic again. Did you combine everything correctly?
Also make sure you’re entering the code in the right spot, following the lock’s markings. And are you sure that’s the right lock? The code might actually belong somewhere else.
6. The Clock Is Ticking!
You only have 60 minutes to escape!
Keep track of time and your progress. On average, aim to solve a puzzle every 10 minutes to stay on pace. If you’re stuck for too long, it’s time to ask for a hint.
7. Game Masters Are Friends - Not Foes
Our game masters want you to have the best possible experience at Fox in a Box Graz!
So pay attention to their instructions. You’ll get important info about what you should (and shouldn’t) do in the room. Trying to open items marked “Do Not Open”? That just wastes time you could be using to solve puzzles.
7.5 Pro Tip!
Don’t hesitate to ask for hints!
Hints are helpful - that’s what they’re there for. Ours are designed to guide you, not give away the answer. They help you see how to combine elements, while still letting you solve the puzzle on your own.
8. Trial and Error Beats Overthinking!
A correct code is useless unless you actually try it.
An escape room is a great space to try different ideas. Think you might have figured something out but you’re not totally sure? Just test it.
Just make sure to talk it through with your teammates!
9. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
It may sound cheesy, but the most important part of an escape room is teamwork.
You win together - or not at all. Everyone brings different strengths: some are great with logic, others notice details, and some are natural organizers.
Use those strengths to help the whole team succeed.
10. Have Fun!
Last but not least: Enjoy yourself!
Celebrate every unlocked lock and laugh at the surprises along the way. Let the room's atmosphere pull you in and immerse yourself in the story!
